Downtown Topeka Historic Resource Survey & National Register Nomination

In conjunction with a multimillion dollar infrastructure improvement and streetscape beautification program, the City of Topeka hired Rosin Preservation to complete a survey and National Register project to support and encourage historic tax credit rehabilitation in the central business district. The initial project surveyed approximately 220 resources in the historic commercial heart of Topeka and North Topeka, identifying potential landmarks and historic districts, as well as areas appropriate for redevelopment that do not appear to meet the National Register criteria. The subsequent South Kansas Avenue National Register Historic District nomination included a diverse collection of commercial buildings, financial institutions, and government buildings that reflect the period from 1880-1965.
